Spring 2010

TE803 Professional Roles and Teaching Practice II

Instructor: Dr. Jan Alleman

TE803 focused specifically on developing meaningful, content based Social Studies instruction and units during the internship year.  In addition to learning more about Social Studies instruction, we visited mentor classrooms to see specific strategies we were learning about and how to model them in the classroom.  The course was capped off with a student led conference, showcasing our work throughout the course.

TE804 Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Practice II

Instructor: Michele Williams

This course was completed during internship year.  In TE804, we focused specifically on reflection and inquiry within the science classroom.  In the course, we developed a three week long inquiry based unit for your classroom to follow.

Fall 2012

CEP810 Teaching for Understanding with Computers

Instructor:  Tammy Maginity

Although this introductory course to the MAET program was full of many concepts (introduction to TPACK framework and Professional Learning Networks or PLN), most of the coursework time was spent developing a group project known as the SIG, or Special Interest Group Project.  Groups were created in which specific interests were discussed.  Then using research, the group shared their SIG to the rest of the class.

CEP811 Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education

Instructor: Amy Pietrowski

In CEP811, we were introduced to Universal Design for Learning.  We also learned more about TPACK.  Using both of these, we were asked to develop a Stand Alone Informational Resource project, in which I focused on addition strategies for first graders.

Spring 2013

CEP812 Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education

Instructor:  Emily Stone and Candace Marcotte

CEP812 focused on identifying a specific issue within your classroom and then using technology to help develop a solution.  This “Wicked Problem” project required research and data, followed by implementation and reflection.  My Wicked Problem focused on making students more responsible for their technology learning.

CEP820 Teaching K-12 Students Online

Instructor: Sean Leahy, April Niemela, and Andrea Zellner

As an introduction to online course development, CEP820 provided us with experience using multiple CMS and integrating content into our individual course.  Throughout the project, I collaborated with my peers through a series of revision and feedback sessions.  At the end of the course, you had a complete, online course that could be used in the classroom.

Summer Cohort 2013

CEP 800 Psychology of Learning in School and Other Settings

Instructors:  Dr. Punya Mishra, Danah Henriksen, William Cain

This first part of the summer cohort was focused on the learning that takes place within a classroom.  It focuses on how students learn and ways that educators need to relate to their material to students for the most effective teaching methods.  CEP800 consisted of two projects. Dream-It was a project in which we were asked to identify a problem and create a plan to solve it. We also did a serious analysis from chapters of Daniel T. Willingham’s “Why Don’t Students Like School?

CEP 815 Technology and Leadership

Instructor:  Dr. Punya Mishra, Danah Henriksen, William Cain

This section of the summer cohort was dedicated to implications of technology intergration. We discussed the idea that students have more knowledge available to them at their fingertips than we could ever learn in several lifetimes.  In CEP815, we collaborated to find research specific to a certain educational topic.  Our topic focused on Technology for Professional Development.

CEP822  Approaches to Educational Research

Instructor:  Dr. Punya Mishra, Danah Henriksen, William Cain

This section of the summer cohort was dedicated to educational research and analyzing of that research. We analyzed they way people think about their knowledge.  For CEP822, we were asked to create a web portfolio to document our coursework.  We also developed an Understanding Understanding Project, in which we asked participants about their understanding of a common concept.

Fall 2013

TE846 Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners

Instructor: Chad Waldron

This course completes the State of Michigan literacy requirement for recertification.  After reviewing an assortment of effective strategies and assessment tools, a teacher will choose a struggling student to document over the semester through the use of a case study.

CEP 807 Proseminar in Educational Technology

Instructor: Dr. Matthew Koehler

As the capstone course for the MAET program, CEP807 is a collective organization of everything completed thus far.  After choosing a preferred site, details of courses and examples of coursework will be presented as a showcase of our graduate school experience.
